This is a 12 week Bible Study titled "Adorn Yourself With Godliness." There will be a new lesson posted every Thursday until we have all of the lessons completed. You are welcome to comment and send your questions and your suggestions to our email address shared at the end of our lesson. If you're logged onto Blogger, you can post there. Get yourself comfortable, grab a friend, let's begin.
When you think of the word ADORN what do you think of? I think of lavish jewels, dressing up, make up, and beauty. The word adorn in Greek is kosmeo which is where we get the word cosmetic from. It's putting in order and getting ready. Like when women prepare for, or get ready. There is an order to preparing as a woman. Ladies we all have our own personal prep routine. We are going to go over a few scriptures on godliness in 1 Timothy. The Apostle Paul wrote the book of 1 Timothy to a young pastor named Timothy in Ephesus to help with the organization, guidance and leadership of the church. This book is one of the final letters of Paul's epistles called Pastoral Epistles. Let's take our first scripture.
1 Timothy 3:16 NKJV And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory
1 Timothy 3:16 NLT Without question, this is the mystery of our faith. Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit, He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.
This scripture goes into the mysteries of godliness, including the manifestation of Jesus as a man in flesh, proof of His humanity and divineness by the Spirit, angels seeing Him, the belief He bought to people as they encountered His godliness, and going back to the Father after resurrection. There would also be a time that would come to deny the doctrines and pervert and corrupt them. Paul wanted to prepare Timothy this.
Today it can mean the same for us to build our relationship with Christ and work on our godliness. Although we believe in Christ and all He stands for, it is sometimes hard to help a non believer understand what believe. We have to first believe that He is in order to come. (Hebrews 11:16 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of those who seek him."KJ21V) So being a servant of godliness would play a big part in introducing a person to Jesus. Knowing the characteristics of Christ and being able to respond accordingly when speaking about the Bible or events in it. To adorn ourselves with Godliness would be to make up, dress up and lavish ourselves in the salvation of our Lord who gives us life in abundance.
Timothy 4:7-8 NKJV ''But reject profane and old wives fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but Godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that which is to come,
1 Timothy 4:7-8 NLTV "Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas or old wives tales. Instead train yourselves to be godly. Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and the life to come."
In this scripture Paul is talking to Timothy in a letter telling him to be faithful, prepared and diligent. He's also encouraging Timothy to make godliness his first priority over bodily exercise. Physical exercise and spiritual godliness are both important here in this scripture. While it's good to be physically fit so to speak, it's more important to have a godly lifestyle, as it will reap the benefits of an eternal life. In short, we are to train ourselves to be godly individuals. The difference between physical and spiritual training is if we fail to train spiritually we will lack the proper tool we need to live a godly life because we wont have taken the steps to learn, grow and develop a strong, firm relationship with God. That's the dangerous part about exercising the wrong priority.
As we live our lives as disciples of Christ, we will soon come to learn that it is important to make our lifestyles a priority in Jesus. We need to develop our spiritual man as much as we develop our natural man. Use things of substance to strengthen our spirit such as the word, prayer, fasting, fellowship, all these things can help adorn us with Godliness. As we become faithful, prepared and diligent as Timothy was advised, we will be able to hold down the fort of godliness.
I normally include this in general blog posts, but I feel lead to do it in the Bible study lesson post.
I would like to extend an invitation to salvation. If you're here reading this Bible study and you have not given your life to Christ, and you are not sure where you will go when you die, then you might want to consider getting saved. If this is you, I would like you to recite this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life to You. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That he died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day for my Victory. I believe that in my heart and make confession with my mouth, that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Amen
If you recited this prayer, then you are saved according to Romans Chapter 10 verses 9 and 10. If you don't have a church, please search for a good bible teaching, truth speaking church. Pray and God will send you to the right church, He will answer. I am so proud of you and I would like to welcome you to the family. The angels are rejoicing in heaven for you.

This concludes our lesson for this week. Next week we will go over more scriptures from the Apostle Paul on how to adorn ourselves with Godliness. Until next lesson, remember I love you with the love of the Lord. 💕😊💕
